The lighting is great, but she seems just a little too serene to be on fire to me. It almost looks like we are looking in through the back of a fireplace and that she isn't on fire at all. Also I think there would be more signs of fire on her garb. Tis a beautiful manipulation of a abhorent practice.

yes, you are probably right....once the fire took hold, undboubtedly her clothes would be burnt to a singe....this is right after the fire was lit....the heat is just starting to reach her....the flames are perhaps just getting close enough to be uncomfortable.....but it is only a matter of minutes before her clothes become engulfed and her flesh starts to burn....many witches(and martyrs of various sorts) did go to the stake in a serene manner.....and they held their serene stance for as long as they were able.

Actually, it would be interesting to note that when people are burnt on the stake, they do not die of the burning itself. They usually faint from the heat and suffocate to death from the smoke ;) That's what kills em

yes, that's very true! even if the smoke did not suffocate you, you would find it very hard to stay conscious in such extreme pain!
