My first (official) hiatus!

I'm afraid I've been terrible about replies lately, and for that I apologise profusely! You all should know how much I love you and appreciate your support, but now it is time for me to take a bit of a hiatus! =NuclearSeasons and I will now be running Neosynthesis and it is going to be very time consuming! =neosynthetic has been running Neo since it's start and he has done an awesome job of building a wonderful community and putting together a fabulous art group. He now needs to put his focus on his own art, and has stepped down in order to persue his dreams full time! We want to wish him the best of luck! (keep an eye out for his new paintings here at DA!!!) At any rate, he's done such a fine job of running neo that there isn't really that much that we have to do, but Deyan and I don't want to just let Neo drift into catharsis, and so we will be working together to make it bigger and better and to give you the best art we can....=neosynthetic will still be coding and helping out where possible, so it's not going to just fall apart! We hope to bring you a new look and new artists...so watch this space!

As I will need to be putting more time and effort into Neo, I'm afraid that I will have to step away from DA a bit....I'm just not going to have the chance to thank everyone for watches and :+fav:'s in what i consider a reasonable time, so i just want to tell you ahead of time how much I appreciate your continued support!!! I will still post new artwork here when I have the time to make it! (i know...the time between submissions has been growing and growing) and i will still be posting my photos to my flickr account...

and I won't be a total stranger, i will still pop in and read notes and messages as I can...so please feel free to contact me that way at any time! (or you can always drop me an email!)

Take care and wish me luck!

C:29 growth

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 14, 2008, 8:08 AM
It's been ages (again)

so what has been going on in my life since i last wrote?? well, I'm in the middle of another course at the university, but I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as my previous one, so i may end up dropping this one..it's only a 10 credit class anyways, so it wasn't really going to put me here nor there...

I've also been house hunting...our current landlord has said that he is thinking of selling our house...so that means that we will have to move most likely...the real question is whether to find another rental or to just bite the bullet and lock ourselves into a mortgage for the rest of our lives....neither prospect sounds overly exciting because our landlord hasn't raised the rent in nearly 7 years and therefore finding a new place to rent will automatically put us at about double what we are paying at the moment...(yes rents really have risen that much in 7 years) and buying of course, is a huge step.....and the payments would still be about twice as much, with the exception being that when things go wrong, it will be us who has to pay for them rather than the landlord......but the fact of the matter is, i'm not getting any younger, and if i plan on owning a house ever...well i really ought to get on with it, hadn't i??
So we've been looking at houses, both rentals and for purchase...and we did find a rental that we liked...but really at that much money, we might as well be paying a mortgage..so i'm a bit hesitant.....the other houses we have looked at have either been waaaaay too small (smaller than our already dinky house) or been way out of our budget...it's a good thing that we are not deperate at the moment.....there are so many things wrong with our house, that i wouldn't really want to buy it, because it's going to take a lot to really get it to where we want it as homeowners rather than renters.....but it's starting to look nice compared to the stuff we've been looking at in our price range...i guess we'll just keep looking and hope that when the landlord finally decides to put it on the market, it will be in our price range.....he hasn't put a penny into it since we've lived there, so i shouldn't think that it will be too far out of range....but you never do know.

OH! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! ( a bit late...but that's par for the course)

Neosynthesis Chronicle 29: Growth

With the start of the new year, we've got a brand new chronicle over at neosynthesis. We wanted something to spur us into the new year and get our creative juices flowing, so we chose "growth" as out theme.....phyisical, mental, spiritual.....growth is an integral part of living...and as part of the theme, neo has grown as well! we have several new members to the art group..so look for new faces and new styles! C29:growth has 33 brand new pieces to tantelize your taste buds, including a massive tapestry collaboration...here are just a few examples of what you'll find inside!

In other news...

I've recently remembered that my scanner does negatives as well...so thought i would try it out....I have a bazillion rolls of black and white film from many many years ago, and even though they are in negative holders, they aren't in the best of shape, and in fact it looks as though i didn't leave them in the stopbath long enough as some of them seem to be exposing still now that they've been out in the light! eek! so i've been spending my weekends scanning all my old negatives to preserve them...so far, i've mostly just done my old photos from the abandoned bfgoodrich factory that we used to hang out in, but it's reminded me how different film is to digital captures, and i actually am really missing film! so perhaps i should go out and buy a bunch of black and white film and do some proper film shooting....if only i had my own darkroom...i'd much rather develop and print it myself....but i'll have to settle for sending it off, i suppose!

Featured artist
when looking through my favourites to pick out some to be featured, every other one that i picked belonged to this peson, so i thought instead of trying to choose, i was just going to have to feature them!
so as a special feature this month, I would like you all to go look at the gallery of Mark Joseph Lape. I have been watching his gallery for some time and every time i look i am blown away by how much he has grown as an artist. Some of you might know him here as ~angelandluci....but if you don't well you should definitely go over there and make his aquaintance! here are a few samplings:

It's been ages

I've been away from DA for ages now...So many things going on. My grandmother became very ill when she was on holiday and had to be transported to the nearest hospital to where she was (she was on a cruise) and it was very touch and go..the docs didn't think she was going to make it for a while there...thankfully she did, and she's finally home and recovering nicely...... and then my cat was ill...(the vet said he had lymphoma and only had weeks to live) but it turns out the vet was wrong and when they did further tests they couldn't find any evidence of cancer and so they did a lymphectomy on him (his lymph glands were swollen to the size of cherry tomatoes!) they said that he didn't have cancer at all, and so they decided that he had eczema and that his constant scratching and biting at his skin had caused his glands to swell up......a far cry from lymphoma! at any rate, he had his surgery and had one of his glands removed and the other is starting to go down now as well, and he is certainly a much happier cat for all of it.

so with all this stuff going on i was wiped out emotionally....but now things all seem to be back in place and, fingers crossed, all the drama is done for a while....so i spent a nice week in london...relaxing and spending time with friends.

that puts me several weeks behind in replying to comments and fav's and looking at other people's work too....so i apologise for the lack of response from me....

I don't think i'll be able to catch up..so i'll just have to start from scratch.....my deviation inbox has never been so full....my comment inbox, not so much ;) so i will at least try to catch up on comments...but it may be a while before i get around to visiting your sites!

Neosynthesis Chronicle 28: oddities

We've got a new chronicle released this week over at neo.. C28:oddities. Stop by and take a peak. It's a rather small release this time, but there is definitely some work worth seeing...including a tapestry collaboration. One person started the tapestry by making a 800x600 piece...they then chopped off the last 150 pixels on the right hand side and passed the 150x600 pixel piece on to the next person who added another 650 pixels to make a new 800x600 piece....the process went on until everyone who wanted to participate made a piece and then the pieces were all stitched together to make a tapestry which has turned out very odd indeed! The tapestry was a lot of fun to work on.

In other news...

I'm starting a new course at uni this month which lasts until march...this means I will still be busy with school, but I'm hoping that this course isn't nearly as intensive as the last one...
I took about 500 photos in london...i'm no where near done processing them, but you can see them and other photos as well at my flickr site.

Neosynthesis Chronicle 27: Illusions

Reality is rarely what we perceive it to be. In our latest chronicle over at neosynthesis.net we have attempted to explore the idea of illusion and it's many faces. We've even gone so far as to attempt one another's styles to really throw reality through a loop. stop by and take a look. we've got 34 brand new pieces. C27: illusions

In other news...

As usual, i've not been very active around here. School has been taking up almost all of my free time but I've completed my last essay finally, so hopefully i'll have a bit more time for art. I've also finally managed to get myself a new lens! I've bought a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens and i absolutely love it, and i've been taking an awful lot of photos with it. If you're at all interested in seeing any, visit my flickr site. There will be many more to come.

Neosynthesis Chronicle 25: Chaos

chaos is something that we all face from time to time....some of us tend to face it even more frequently than that! We have had a lot of changes over at Neo recently, both as a group and individually...and we have decided that instead of letting the chaos take us over, we would take the chaos and funnel it into something more productive, something positive....and so it is with this that we present our latest chronicle C25:Chaos...a collection of 30 brand new pieces. Please stop in and give them a view..here is a small taster of the goodies to be found inside:

In other news...

school is going well still...3 assignments down, many more to go....only 6 more months till this class is over...I suppose I should start thinking about what i plan to take for next year! I've still had very little time for any artwork of my own....and i have to admit that i've been very lax about doing any photography either....what i really need is a vacation away from nottingham, so that i have something new and different to look at, something to inspire me....well even a vacation IN nottingham would be beneficial...just any vacation would be nice! I did manage to get out to the cinema this weekend and saw 'bridge to terabithia' it was very good an quite a moving film....it was of course changed slightly from the book, but i think that the changes were good and actually added to the story rather than detracted from it.
